Hi my name is Kate, and along with thousands of other millennials in the midst of a global pandemic who were thrust into working from home, I got my very first dog Will back in August 2020. The first year of having Will was an absolute rollercoaster of emotions, constant information searching and just figuring out how the hell to actually raise a healthy, happy, socialized and well trained dog! I knew that this would be hard work, but I just didn’t realize the mental and emotional toll it would take. There were many tears shed, more than a few sleepless nights wondering what the hell I got myself into and basically wondering if I was ruining this dog for good by all the mistakes I was making. I thought I was just not cut out for this. But as I talked to more and more new dog parents, and even one’s who had raised many dogs in their life, I realized that so many of us had questions, needed help and basically just needed someone to talk to about being a dog parent!

W. Briggs Academy was created with the intent of wanting to help other dog parents navigate the bumpy terrain so they can spend more time throwing a ball and giving more snuggles to their very good boy or girl! I want this to be a site where you can hear about similar struggles and know you aren’t alone, get a great game idea to play with your overly energetic dog, find the best winter coat for your dog that is both functional and doesn’t make them look ridiculous and also find recommendations for a great pair of dog walking boots for yourself. All on one site!

I hope that the W. Briggs Academy helps you to navigate the bumpy road of dog ownership. And keep in mind that while this journey will not be an easy one, it will be so well worth it for the incredible bond you will have with your furry best friend!

Kate and Will reside in upstate New York, which is good for Will because he absolutely lives for the cold and snowy weather. Will is a 70 pound Newfoundland and Poodle mix and while he is smart, sweet and gentle and the absolute bestest boy of all, Kate does regret having raised such a spoiled boy who prefers the $12 bones and the expensive dog food from Italy.
